famulus

Famulus is Latin for a male servant, and famula for a female servant, often a farmhand or household helper.

Famulus means a servant, usually a man, and famula a woman. In rural parishes it often meant a hired farmhand or maid living in the employer's house.

A famulus listed in a marriage or burial entry may have been born in another parish, so if his baptism is not where he worked, widen the search to nearby parishes.
