Partition
A partition is a division of land owned by several people, often heirs, so that each gets a separate share or the land is sold.
A partition breaks up land held by several co-owners. When a man died without a will, his heirs often owned his land together, and one of them would ask the court to divide it or sell it and split the money.
Partition suits are rich sources. They name every heir, their spouses and where they lived, and may include a plat showing who got which lot.
