Satisfaction of mortgage
A satisfaction of mortgage is the lender's signed entry on the record that the mortgage debt is paid and the land is free of the claim.
Satisfaction means paying what is due. When a mortgage or judgment was paid, the creditor entered a satisfaction on the record so the land was free of the claim. Some places called the paper a deed of release.
A satisfaction or release recorded after a mortgage shows when the family cleared the debt.
As seen in a recordSatisfaction entry in a county mortgage record, 1800s
Received full payment of the within mortgage and the same is hereby satisfied. Wm. Bell, mortgagee. March 4, 1871
