Inducted
Inducted means a man drafted through Selective Service was formally taken into the armed forces, as opposed to one who enlisted voluntarily.
Under the World War I and World War II drafts, local boards called registrants for induction and sent them to camp. The World War II classification I-C separated Inducted men from Enlisted men, and over 10 million men were inducted between October 1940 and March 1947.
A World War I draft card ends when the man reported to camp. A World War II classification history can record his entry into active duty and its mode, such as enlisted or ordered, and a report of separation gives the date and place of entry.
