Property schedule

A property schedule was a sworn list of a pensioner's estate and income that Revolutionary War veterans had to file under the act of 1820 to show need.

The 1818 service pension was only for veterans in need. After a flood of claims, a law of May 1, 1820, required every pensioner and applicant to submit a certified schedule of his estate and income. Several thousand men judged not needy were struck from the rolls.

For genealogists the schedules are a bonus. Besides the property, they often give the names and ages of the veteran's wife and children, a household picture that may exist nowhere else.

As seen in a recordRevolutionary War pension file, 1820
Schedule: 1 cow, 2 hogs, household furniture worth $12. Family: wife Hannah aged 62; daughter Polly aged 24
