Biddy

Biddy is an old nickname for Bridget or Obedience, found in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.

Biddy is the usual pet form of Bridget. Lists of 18th and 19th century nicknames also give Biddy for Obedience, a virtue name.

The same woman can be Bridget in one record and Biddy in the next, for example a birth under one name and a marriage under the other. Match age, place and relatives before you join the two. Because Biddy served for more than one name, see which full name the same woman carries in other records.

As seen in a recordTown marriage register, 1814; her baptism gives her name as Bridget
Amos Rushworth and Biddy Vickery, both of this town, married 23 Aug. 1814
