Delia

Delia is an old nickname for Bridget, Adelia, Bedelia, Cordelia or Fidelia, found in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.

Delia was a short form of several names ending in delia, such as Adelia, Bedelia, Cordelia and Fidelia. A Vita Brevis guide from American Ancestors also lists it as a form of Bridget.

The same woman can be Bridget in one record and Delia in the next, for example a birth under one name and a marriage under the other. Match age, place and relatives before you join the two. Because Delia served for more than one name, see which full name the same woman carries in other records.

As seen in a recordTown marriage register, 1798; her baptism gives her name as Bridget
Seth Earnshaw and Delia Dudgeon, both of this town, married 18 Aug. 1798
