Joe

Joe is a nickname for Joseph, Josiah or Joshua, so the same person may be Joe in one record and Joseph in another.

Joe stands for Joseph, but Charlotte Yonge notes that it was just as often short for Josiah or Joshua, so do not assume Joseph.

In a search, try both names. An index may list him only as Joe, while his baptism or marriage record gives Joseph. Because Joe served for more than one name, see which full name the same man carries in other records.

As seen in a record1850 census; his 1842 deed is signed Joseph
Joe Treadway, 36, M, Farmer, N.Y.
