Mabel

Mabel is an old nickname for Mehitable, found in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.

Mabel was a full name of its own, a shortening of Amabel, but the Connecticut State Library's list of 18th and 19th century nicknames also gives it as a short form of Mehitable.

The same woman can be Mehitable in one record and Mabel in the next, for example a birth under one name and a marriage under the other. Match age, place and relatives before you join the two.

As seen in a recordTown marriage register, 1830; her baptism gives her name as Mehitable
Ansel Kimbrough and Mabel Pomeroy, both of this town, married 3 Aug. 1830
