Sukey

Sukey is an old nickname for Susannah, Susan or Sarah, found in American records of the 1700s and 1800s.

Sukey was a pet form of Susannah and Susan, and lists of 18th and 19th century nicknames also give it for Sarah. Charlotte Yonge lists Sukey and Sue together among the English forms of Susannah.

A gravestone or a family Bible may say Sukey while a will or a deed says Susannah. Search indexes under both forms so you do not miss her. Because Sukey served for more than one name, see which full name the same woman carries in other records.

As seen in a recordGravestone, 1846; her husband's will calls her Susannah
Sukey, wife of Levi Gotham, died Nov. 8, 1846, aged 66 years
