Cashier

A cashier took in and paid out money for a store, office or bank and kept account of the cash on hand.

In a store the cashier received payments at the register; in accounting the word means the person responsible for receiving and paying out money. The 1900 census instructions said a bank cashier must never be confused with a cashier in a store, and the 1930 examples list both "Cashier, Department store" and "Cashier, Bank".

As a verb, to cashier means to dismiss someone, especially an officer, from service, so "cashiered" in a military record is not a job.
