Glazier

A glazier was a tradesman who cut and fitted glass panes into windows, doors and frames.

Window glass came in small panes that had to be cut to size and set in wooden sashes with putty. The glazier did this work, and often also did painting, since the trades were commonly combined.

In census returns you may see painter and glazier together for the same man.
