Miller

A miller owned or ran a mill, most often a gristmill that ground farmers' grain into flour and meal.

Milling is one of the oldest occupations. A miller ground corn, wheat and other grain between millstones, and mills came to be driven by animal, water, wind and later electric power.

Miller is also one of the most common surnames, with matching names in other languages such as Muller, Meunier and Molnar, so an immigrant family named Mueller may simply descend from a miller somewhere in Europe.
