Pharmacist

A pharmacist was a trained professional who prepared and dispensed medicines, usually from a drugstore.

A pharmacist is a health professional who prepares and dispenses medications and advises on their use. In most of the Commonwealth the same person is called a chemist.

The 1940 census instructions told enumerators to give the trade along with the word proprietor, as proprietor-pharmacist, and list "Proprietor-pharmacist, Retail drug store" as a model entry. Compare druggist and apothecary, older words for people who made up and sold medicines.
