Spooler
A spooler wound yarn or thread from small bobbins onto large spools in a textile mill, readying it for the warping and weaving steps.
Spooling was one of the steps between spinning and weaving. The spooler tended a machine that pulled yarn off small bobbins, tied the broken ends together and wound the yarn onto larger spools for the next process.
It was light, quick work, and mills often gave it to girls and young women. The 1940 census instructions use spooler, silk mill as a model of a properly precise occupation entry.
