Cousin-german

A cousin-german is a first cousin: the child of your aunt or uncle.

Cousin-german is an old phrase for a first cousin, a child of your parent's brother or sister. German here comes from an old word for closely related, not from the country.

Because cousin alone could mean almost any relative in early records, cousin-german is valuable: it names the exact relationship.
