Daughter-in-law
A daughter-in-law is the wife of your son, often found in census households living with his parents.
A daughter-in-law is the woman married to your son. In census households she may live with her husband in his parents' home, or stay on with them as a widow.
A widowed daughter-in-law with children in the household can explain grandchildren who carry the head's surname but no parents on the page.
