Stepbrother
A stepbrother is the son of your stepparent from an earlier marriage; you share no parent with him.
A stepbrother is the son of the man or woman your parent married, from that person's earlier relationship. Stepsister is the female form. Unlike a half-brother, a stepbrother has no parent in common with you.
Blended households were common when spouses died young and the survivor remarried. Children with different surnames in one household may be stepsiblings.
