faddrar
Faddrar are godparents or baptism witnesses; Swedish baptism entries list them after the parents, often as men and women separately.
A fadder (plural faddrar) witnessed the baptism and promised to help with the child's Christian upbringing. Entries often split them into mansfaddrar (male sponsors) and kvinnsfaddrar (female sponsors), abbreviated m.f. and k.f.
Because the 1686 church law required baptism within eight days, the mother was often not present, and a godmother carried the child. Faddrar may be neighbors or relatives, and their names and farms can point to the family's circle.
