döpt

Döpt is Swedish for "baptized"; Swedish birth and baptism books give the baptism date after the birth date, usually within days.

Döpt comes from döpa, to baptize, and the baptism itself is the dop. Under the church law of 1686, a child was to be baptized no later than eight days after birth, so the two dates in a birth book are normally close together.

The baptism entry also lists the parents and the faddrar, the godparents or baptism witnesses. If a child was baptized at home because it was weak, look for a burial soon after.
