acct.
Acct. is short for account, as in an executor's account of money received and paid out for an estate.
Acct. stands for account. In family records you meet it most in probate files, where an executor or administrator filed an acct. listing every payment in and out of the estate, and in store and tax ledgers.
An estate account can be a gold mine: it may name heirs, buyers at the estate sale, doctors who treated the last illness and the cost of the coffin.
