Adjt.
Adjt. or Adj. in a military roster means adjutant, the officer who helped the commander run the unit's administration and records.
An adjutant was a staff officer who assisted the commanding officer with the unit's administration. In a regiment's field and staff list, Adjt. before a man's name gives his post on the staff.
Roster keys spell it in different ways. The Nebraska Civil War roster uses Adjt, and the Windham County list for the War of 1812 and Mexican War uses Adj. Do not confuse it with Adjt. Gen., the adjutant general, whose office published state rosters.
