aet.

Aet. (also æt.) is short for aetatis, Latin for "of age" or "aged": aet. 63 on a gravestone means the person was 63.

Aet. stands for aetatis, "of age," and on gravestones and in burial registers it gives the age at death. It is often written with the joined letters æ, as æt., or as aetat.

Ages on stones were supplied by relatives and were sometimes rounded or wrong. Use the age to estimate a birth year, then look for a baptism or birth record to confirm it.
