AOH

AOH means Ancient Order of Hibernians, an Irish Catholic fraternal order founded in the United States in New York City in 1836.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians is for Catholic men born in Ireland or of Irish descent. In the United States it began in New York City in 1836 to guard Catholic churches and to help Irish Catholic immigrants.

AOH in an obituary or on a gravestone is a strong hint of Irish Catholic roots, and the local division may have kept membership records.
