Kor

Kor in the color or race column of the 1920, 1930 and 1940 census means Korean.

Korean first got its own race code in 1920, when the instructions listed W, B, Mu, In, Ch, Jp, Fil, Hin and Kor. The 1930 and 1940 instructions kept Kor. In 1910 there was no such code, so a Korean was written Ot with the race noted in the margin.

The 1950 instructions dropped Kor from the short list and told enumerators to write any other race in full. Korean also appears in the 1920 and 1930 lists of mother tongues for foreign-born people.
