Com. Sergt.

Com. Sergt. in a military roster means commissary sergeant, the sergeant who helped manage the regiment's food supplies.

The commissary handled a unit's food, or subsistence. The Nebraska Civil War roster key gives Com. Sergt. for commissary sergeant and Reg. Com. for regimental commissary, and the Windham County list gives Com. for commissary and Sub. for subsistence.

The commissary sergeant is listed with the non-commissioned staff, not with a company. Note that Com. alone can also mean commander or committee in other records.
