d.

D. in a genealogy means "died," as in d. 1820; in British money and some old accounts the same letter means pence.

In family trees, pedigrees and printed genealogies d. is the standard short form of died, followed by a date or place.

In old account books, inventories and wills, d. is also the symbol for pence (from the Latin denarius), as in 3s. 4d. If the d. comes after a number in a list of money, it is a sum, not a death.
