d. & h.
d. & h. in a pedigree or abstract means daughter and heiress: a daughter who inherited because there was no son.
Genealogical abbreviation lists give d. & h. for daughter and heiress and d. & coh. for daughter and coheiress, used when two or more daughters shared the inheritance. The same lists give s. and h. for son and heir.
So d. & h. tells you the father left no son, or that his sons' lines had died out, which is useful when you try to trace his land or his line.
