s. and h.

s. and h. in a pedigree or abstract means son and heir: the son who inherited, usually the eldest.

Genealogical abstracts and pedigrees write s. and h. for son and heir. The same lists use d. & h. for daughter and heiress, and d. & coh. for daughter and coheiress, when daughters inherited because there was no son.

These are short forms used by compilers of pedigrees and abstracts. Read the full phrase before deciding that the s. stands for son alone, since d. & h. and d. & coh. follow the same pattern.
