Daily AncestorFcty.
Fcty. is short for factory, one of the twenty abbreviations allowed in the occupation column of the 1900 census.
The 1900 census instructions let enumerators write Fcty. for factory in the occupation column, which had little room.
The same instructions told them not to write factory operative but to state the kind of work done, as in cotton mill-spinner. So expect lines such as Packer, shoe Fcty.: the first word is the job, and the word just before Fcty. tells you what the factory made.
