O.S.B.

O.S.B. after a name means the person was a Benedictine monk, nun or priest: a member of the Order of Saint Benedict.

O.S.B. stands for the Latin Ordo Sancti Benedicti, the Order of Saint Benedict. Benedictines follow the Rule of Saint Benedict and live in monasteries or convents, some called abbeys.

A priest who signed a baptism or marriage entry with O.S.B. was a Benedictine, and the house he belonged to may have its own records. Compare S.J. for a Jesuit.
