Pro.
Pro. in a military roster means promoted, as in Pro. Corp.; in court and probate papers pro. can mean probate or proved.
The Windham County list, made for War of 1812 and Mexican War records, gives Pro. for promoted, while the Nebraska Civil War roster writes prmtd. The new rank and a date usually follow, as in Pro. Sergt. July 1, 1847.
In probate and court records the same letters can stand for probate or proved, as in a will pro. in court. Let the kind of record decide which reading fits.
