Sch.
Sch. means school, as in Teacher, public Sch. or Janitor, Sch.; it was an approved abbreviation in the 1900 census occupation column.
Sch. for school is on the 1900 census list of twenty short forms allowed in the occupation column. The same instructions asked for a teacher in school to be reported as such, and set apart a professor in a college or university and a teacher of music or art.
So Teacher, Sch. usually means a schoolteacher, while a janitor at a school also shows the place of work with Sch. Do not confuse the occupation entry with column 21, where the 1900 census recorded months of school attendance.
