Wag.

Wag. in a military roster means wagoner, the soldier who drove and looked after a company's supply wagon.

Roster keys shorten wagoner to Wag., and genealogical abbreviation lists give wag. for wagoner as well. In the Kansas Adjutant General's report for one cavalry company, the wagoner is listed between the corporals and the privates.

Wagoner was a post in the company, much like musician, not a civilian job. A man listed as Wag. was an enlisted soldier, so look for him in the regiment's service and pension records.
