Thrombosis
Thrombosis meant a blood clot forming inside a vessel and blocking it, unlike embolism, where a clot travels from somewhere else.
Webster's 1913 defines thrombosis as the blocking of a blood vessel by a clot formed at the site, and sets it apart from embolism, caused by a clot or foreign body carried from a distance.
IPUMS gives embolism and thrombosis one code. The 1911 Census Bureau manual asked doctors to state the organ, and whether the clot followed childbirth.
