Manumitted
Manumitted means freed from slavery by the owner; the 1850 and 1860 slave schedules had a column for the number each owner freed within the year.
The slave schedule column asked for the number manumitted within the year ending June 1, entered opposite the former owner's name, even if the owner held no slaves by then. In 1860 the enumerator could also describe each freed person and write manumitted under the owner's name.
A number here points you to a deed of manumission or a will in the county records, which may name the people who were freed.
