Residence April 1, 1935
Residence April 1, 1935 was a 1940 census question asking where each person aged 5 or older lived five years earlier, answered Same house, Same place or a town.
Same house meant no move; Same place meant a different house in the same city, town or village. Otherwise the enumerator gave the town, county and state, or R for rural with the county and state, plus whether it was a farm.
The answer can lead you to the family in a 1935 city directory. It was the first census question that gave statistics on how people moved from place to place.
