Preparative meeting
A preparative meeting was a business meeting of a single Quaker congregation that prepared matters to send up to its monthly meeting.
Its minutes usually cover answers to the queries, property and schools rather than members' lives. Most vital records and membership actions were made by the monthly meeting.
Knowing which preparative meeting a family attended tells you which monthly meeting to search. Many preparative meetings later became monthly meetings themselves.
