Ides

The ides is a fixed day in the Roman calendar: the 15th of March, May, July and October and the 13th of other months.

The ides fell on the 15th of March, May, July and October and on the 13th of the other months. It is best known from the Ides of March. Days before it were counted toward it.

When a Latin record gives a date as so many days before the ides, count back from the 13th or 15th, including both ends.
