nato
Nato is Italian for "born" (nata for a girl, nati for several); in a birth act it gives the day, hour and place of the birth.
Nato is the past participle of nascere, to be born, and like other Italian adjectives it changes with the person: nato for a boy, nata for a girl, nati for more than one. È nato means was born, and nacque is another past form of the same verb. It is often abbreviated n.
Nata before a surname can also introduce a married woman's maiden name. Nato morto or natomorto means stillborn. In civil birth acts the date of the act and the date of birth are separate, so check which one you are copying.
