agnatus
Agnatus is Latin for an agnate, a relative connected through the male line, as opposed to kin through a mother.
An agnatus is related to you through the male line, for example a father's brother or a father's brother's son. Look for the word in papers about inheritance and guardianship as well as in parish books.
As a participle the same spelling can also mean born after or grown later. Wiktionary lists adgnatus as another spelling.
