Latin in records · card A

amita

Amita is Latin for an aunt on the father's side, the father's sister.

Amita means a paternal aunt, the sister of your father. Latin kept separate words for aunts on each side of the family, so the word itself tells you which branch she belonged to.

When a godmother is described as amita infantis (aunt of the infant), the entry gives you a sister of the father in one stroke.

Matrina: Maria Huber, amita infantis
