filia

Filia is Latin for "daughter"; Maria filia Jacobi means "Mary, daughter of James."

Filia means daughter. Like filius, it is followed by the parents' names in the genitive case, so Jacobus appears as Jacobi and Elisabetha as Elisabethae.

Abbreviation lists give fil. for both son and daughter, so when the word is cut short, look at the child's name or the ending of baptizatus or baptizata to tell which it is.
