genitor

Genitor is Latin for a father or parent, the one who begot the child; genitrix or genetrix is the mother.

Genitor means the one who begot a child: dictionaries give parent, father and begetter. The feminine form is genitrix, also spelled genetrix.

Wiktionary lists pater as a synonym, so genitor can stand in a record where you expect pater; genitrix then stands for mater, the mother.
