nepos

Nepos is Latin for "grandson" or "nephew"; which one is meant depends on the record and the period, so check other sources.

Nepos can mean grandson and can also mean nephew. Word lists give both meanings, and dictionaries add granddaughter and niece as less common senses.

When nepos appears in a will or witness line, do not assume which relationship is meant. Work out the generations from other records before placing the person in the tree.
