nuptiae
Nuptiae is Latin for a wedding or nuptials; the word is plural in form but means one wedding.
Nuptiae is used only in the plural, yet it means a single wedding or marriage. It comes from nupta, married, and belongs with the verb nubo, to marry.
Marriage entries use the family in several phrases: nuptiae solemnizatae (the solemnized wedding), nomina nuptorum (the names of the married) and nupti erant (they were married).
