Lucy

Lucy stood for Lucinda or Luciana in many American records of the 1700s and 1800s.

Lucy is a full name of its own, but lists of 18th and 19th century nicknames also give it as a short form of Lucinda and Luciana.

Do not take Lucy and Lucinda for two different people too quickly. Compare ages, places and the names of relatives to confirm that both names belong to one woman. Because Lucy served for more than one name, see which full name the same woman carries in other records.

As seen in a record1850 census; her 1842 marriage record calls her Lucinda
