født

Født is Norwegian (and Danish) for "born"; in a Norwegian church book it introduces a child's birth date in the baptism entry.

Født is the past participle of føde, to give birth, and the noun is fødsel, birth. FamilySearch lists fødte and født as the key words for birth in Norwegian records.

Before the printed forms of 1814, many priests wrote only the baptism date, so an early entry may have no birth date at all. From 1814 the forms asked for both dates, and the født date is then usually a few days before the baptism.
