Culler
A culler was an inspector who sorted goods for market, sending the good quality forward and rejecting what was inferior.
Bulk goods such as lumber, staves, fish and other produce were graded before sale, and some places appointed official cullers to do it fairly. The word comes from cull, meaning to pick out.
Cullers appear in town and colonial records and in lumber and fishing communities. Today a culler more often means someone who thins out animals, a different sense.
