Glassblower
A glassblower shaped molten glass into bottles, jars and other vessels by blowing air into it through a long blowpipe.
Blowing a bubble of molten glass on a blowpipe is a technique about two thousand years old. In a glassworks the head of a glassblowing workshop was called a gaffer.
A lampworker, who shaped glass over a torch on a smaller scale, for example making laboratory glassware, may also be called a glassblower, so the title covers both furnace work and torch work.
As seen in a recordOccupation column of the 1850 to 1930 census
